Dugout Canyon
Dugout Canyon is an underground mining complex that began production in 1998, initially as a room-and-pillar operation and then as a longwall mine in 2001. In 2012, Dugout Canyon completed mining the longwall panels in its current mine plan and now operates as a room-and-pillar operation with the option to resume longwall mining in the future in an adjacent reserve block.
The Dugout Canyon mine is located on 9,691 acres in Carbon County, UT approximately 12 miles northeast of Price, UT.
Dugout Canyon is located in the Book Cliffs coalfield. The field parallels the path of a line of the Union Pacific Railroad. Dugout Canyon has longwall and continuous miner reserves where it produces high-BTU, low-sulfur, compliance thermal coal.
